Why Cabrera

Cabrera is a town in María Trinidad Sánchez Province at the eastern end of the DR's north coast, on the western edge of the Bahía Escocesa (Scottish Bay). Its coastline of cliffs, coves and pastureland between Río San Juan and Nagua is far quieter than the big resort areas, which is exactly why couples choose it for intimate weddings and why small groups book whole boutique hotels here.

The nearest airport is Samaná El Catey (AZS). Casablanca Cabrera says it is about 1 h 15 min from AZS; Santo Domingo (SDQ) is an option for wider flight choice with a longer drive.

Wedding venues and what's included

Cabrera Chalet in La Catalina publishes the most complete wedding offer: full planning, a choice of beach, chalet or hacienda ceremony sites, flowers and decoration, hair and make-up, a reception dinner, live music, cake and an officiant, with private events and group dinners for up to 25 people. Casablanca Cabrera hosts destination weddings either by booking the entire hotel or a room for two, plus location shoots, private events and catering. Amanera, the Aman resort above Playa Grande near Río San Juan, is the luxury option on this stretch of coast.

Who it is for: couples planning an elopement or a wedding of roughly 25 guests or fewer, and families who want the whole venue to themselves. Larger weddings will find more capacity in Punta Cana, La Romana or Las Terrenas (Sublime Samaná lists receptions for up to 140).

Music, video and extras

Cabrera vs the Samaná Peninsula for a small wedding

Cabrera and Las Terrenas share the same airport (AZS) but suit different weddings. Cabrera is about seclusion: a few boutique hotels, cliffs and coves, and venues you can take over entirely. Las Terrenas is a livelier beach town with more choice for guests who want restaurants and nightlife; Sublime Samaná at Playa Cosón lists receptions for up to 140 guests, Hotel Alisei has a 103 m² event room, and Coson Bay hosts special events and weddings with ocean-view condos for families.

A practical approach for a group of 20 to 40: hold the ceremony and dinner in Cabrera and house overflow guests nearby, or choose Las Terrenas if most guests want a beach-town stay. Whichever you pick, ask venues for their rain plan, the latest time for amplified music and whether they work with an outside photographer or videographer.

Planning timeline

With so few rooms, secure the venue first, then guest accommodation, then photographer and music. Start civil-marriage paperwork early if you are marrying legally in the DR, because documents must be apostilled and translated. Share the Samaná El Catey (AZS) route with guests as soon as the date is fixed.
