Dominican Republic incentive trip guide: programs, DMCs and costs
How DR incentive programs are structured, which DMCs publish group sizes and inclusions, where to stay, and the line items to budget.

An incentive trip rewards top performers, so the bar is different from a working retreat: the experience has to feel exclusive, and logistics have to be invisible. The Dominican Republic is a common choice because Punta Cana has large all-inclusive resorts with convention space, Cap Cana and Casa de Campo offer golf and marina settings, and Santo Domingo adds the Zona Colonial for a cultural evening. This guide shows how local DMCs package incentives and which costs to plan for, using figures from their own sites.
Most incentive programs follow the same arc: VIP arrival, a welcome event, one or two signature experiences, a free afternoon, a gala and a farewell. The differences lie in group size, how exclusive each moment is, and who carries the risk on the ground.
How local DMCs package incentives
AF DMC Travel publishes three signature frameworks. The Corporate Incentive Escape is a 4-to-6-night program for 25 to 500 guests with VIP airport arrivals, a welcome gala, two exclusive excursions, a half-day of team building, a farewell dinner, branded materials and an on-site director. The Executive Retreat is a confidential program for 8 to 40 executives, and the Team Building & Celebration Program serves 30 to 1,500. AF DMC works B2B with agencies and corporate buyers, signs NDAs on request and offers white-label ground operations.
Connect DMC lists incentive programs, meetings, events, group logistics, airport VIP services, dine-arounds, off-site venues, CSR and branding in Punta Cana and Santo Domingo. Dominican Expert, with offices in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana and more than 15 years in the country, designs incentive ideas from hike-and-bike days and culinary journeys to Zona Colonial history tours, and has its own catering arm. Eventum in Santo Domingo runs incentive programs with team building, strategic meetings, product launches and international congresses.
Where to base the group
For large groups, the Bávaro resorts keep everyone under one roof with convention space for the awards night: Barceló Bávaro lists up to 5,000 attendees and Paradisus Palma Real up to 1,500 in its convention center, plus beach and garden venues such as Malva Beach (400). Casa de Campo suits golf-focused incentives, with the resort's planning page listing championship golf, beaches and dining between sessions, villas with up to ten bedrooms and special villa rates for groups of 10+. For a small top-performer group, a staffed villa such as Villa Espada (up to 22 guests, chef and butler included, two golf carts and member-guest golf rates at Punta Espada) feels more exclusive than a hotel wing.

Budget lines to plan for
Most incentive budgets break into accommodation, food and beverage, ground transport, activities, the gala (venue, décor, production, entertainment), branded materials, staff, and a contingency. Two Dominican specifics affect totals: the DGII lists 18% ITBIS on taxable services, and the 10% legal tip applies to food and drink consumed on the premises. Ask DMCs to quote net and gross and to state what is included. AF DMC, for instance, says it sends itemized proposals with no hidden fees and quotes net rates to agencies.
For entertainment and content, ExperiencesDR's in-house Event DJ starts from US$1,000, and event video, photo and recap films are quoted on request; a recap video is a useful asset for next year's qualifier campaign.
Timing and travel documents
The U.S. State Department notes that tropical storms and hurricanes occur in the Caribbean generally from May through November, so programs in those months need flexible contracts and insurance; it also strongly recommends travel insurance covering medical care. Every traveler on a commercial flight must complete the free e-Ticket for entry and for departure on the Migration Department's portal, the US$10 tourist card is included in airline charges, and U.S. passports must be valid for six months from arrival. Send qualifiers a checklist with these items when you announce the winners.
A sample five-night incentive itinerary
Day 1: VIP arrival at Punta Cana airport, transfer and a welcome reception on the beach. Day 2: a signature excursion in the morning, such as a private catamaran or an adventure-park day, with the afternoon free and a dine-around in the evening. Day 3: a half-day of team building or a short business session, then golf or spa time. Day 4: a second experience, for example a Zona Colonial history evening in Santo Domingo of the kind Dominican Expert organizes, or a scavenger hunt through Casa de Campo's marina and Altos de Chavón. Day 5: free day and the awards gala. Day 6: departure, with the exit e-Ticket completed in advance.
This mirrors the inclusions AF DMC lists for its Corporate Incentive Escape (welcome gala, two exclusive excursions, team-building half-day and farewell dinner over 4 to 6 nights). Keep transfers short on the first and last days, and agree a wet-weather plan for every outdoor element, especially between May and November.
Choosing between DMCs
Send every DMC the same brief: dates, group size, budget per person, destination, must-have moments and the company's brand guidelines. Compare proposals on what is included, staff on the ground, response time and references. AF DMC states a 48-business-hour response to RFPs and works in English, Spanish and Russian; Dominican Expert lists English, German, Spanish and French; Connect DMC covers Punta Cana and Santo Domingo. A DMC that has run programs at your chosen resort before will know its venues, timings and back-of-house routes, which matters on gala night.
