Las Terrenas is the liveliest town on the Samaná Peninsula's Atlantic coast, 23 km from El Catey airport (AZS) and about 2.5 hours by road from Santo Domingo. Its beaches (Playa Cosón, Playa Bonita, Las Ballenas, Punta Popy) host small weddings at beachfront hotels and villas, while the hills behind town hold yoga and wellness retreats. Boat trips run to Los Haitises and, in winter, to the humpback whales in Samaná Bay.

When is the best time to visit?
The Ministry of Tourism lists December to April as the driest months and the peak season; humpback whales are in Samaná Bay from roughly mid-January to late March.
