Las Terrenas weddings: beach hotels, villas, planners and logistics
9 listings
Las Terrenas is a beach town on the Atlantic coast of the Samaná Peninsula, and weddings here tend to be small: a ceremony on Playa Cosón or Playa Las Ballenas, a dinner at a beachfront hotel, or a villa booked by the whole group for a long weekend. The nine wedding listings below are the venues, planners and photographers in town we could document from their own websites.
Compared with Punta Cana, you will find few all-inclusive packages here. Couples usually choose a hotel or villa first and then a local planner who brings in catering, décor, music and the paperwork. That means more freedom, and more decisions.

Getting there: Samaná El Catey airport (AZS) is about a 30-minute drive from Las Terrenas.
How to choose
Start with the guest count. Sublime Samaná on Playa Cosón hosts receptions for up to 140 guests (Sublime), while a villa such as Casa Tabiki sleeps 18, or up to 22 (Casa Tabiki). Above that, plan for guests to spread across several hotels. Hotel Alisei on Playa Las Ballenas has a 103 m² event room that can double as a rain plan (Alisei).
Then decide who coordinates. By Sylvie covers the ceremony, accommodation, décor, catering and entertainment (By Sylvie). Events BW, in Las Terrenas since 2010, lists legal paperwork, group rates, food and beverage packages, live entertainment, photo and video, hair and make-up and décor (Events BW). El Hilo Events plans destination weddings in town (El Hilo), and Caribbean Luxury Picnic focuses on elopements, proposals and beach setups (Caribbean Luxury Picnic).
If you book a villa, get its event rules in writing. Villa del Mar on Playa Cosón, for example, charges a US$2,000 event fee for events over 30 people, requires 5 nights and a US$2,000 security deposit, and asks for music to go down by 10:30 pm and off by 11 pm (Villa del Mar).
Getting your guests there
The closest airport is El Catey International (AZS), which its operator Aerodom places 23 km from Las Terrenas, 46 km from Samaná town and 74 km from Las Galeras (Aerodom). Many guests will fly into Santo Domingo (SDQ) instead; the Ministry of Tourism puts Las Terrenas 2.5 hours from Santo Domingo by road (MITUR).
Arrange shared transfers rather than leaving guests to find taxis. In our directory, Pedro Taxi Las Terrenas lists transfers from AZS, SDQ, Punta Cana (PUJ), Puerto Plata (POP) and Santiago (STI) (Pedro Taxi), and Las Terrenas Best Excursions picks up in Las Terrenas, El Portillo, Playa Bonita, Cosón and Samaná. Send flight details to the transfer company in one list, and plan the welcome event for the evening after most arrivals.
Seasons: dry months, whales and hurricanes
The Ministry of Tourism describes Las Terrenas as warm all year (25–30 °C / 77–86 °F), with December to April as both the driest period and the peak season (MITUR). Peak season means booking venues and villas early, and higher villa rates: Casa Tabiki's published rate rises from US$1,600 to US$2,000 a night in high season (Casa Tabiki).
Humpback whales gather in Samaná Bay in winter. The Ministry of Environment opened the 2026 whale-watching season on 16 January 2026 (Medio Ambiente), and local operators list trips from roughly mid-January to late March. A whale trip makes a good guest activity for a February or March wedding. Our whale-watching guide has the details.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November (NOAA National Hurricane Center). If you marry in those months, choose a venue with an indoor or covered option, and read the cancellation and rescheduling terms in every contract.
Venue types in Las Terrenas
Beachfront hotels: Sublime Samaná sits on Playa Cosón with the hills behind it and hosts receptions for up to 140 (Sublime). Cosón Bay, also on Playa Cosón, has 2- and 3-bedroom ocean-view condos and the Ocean Grill beach club, and hosts weddings and family reunions (Cosón Bay). Hotel Alisei, on Playa Las Ballenas closer to town, has a 103 m² event room.
Whole-villa buyouts: Casa Tabiki on Playa Cosón has 9 en-suite, air-conditioned bedrooms for 18 guests (up to 22) and accepts weddings and events (Casa Tabiki). Villa del Mar has 13 rooms plus a presidential suite for up to 28 guests, with the event rules described above.
Elopements and small beach setups: Caribbean Luxury Picnic designs tablescapes and flowers for ceremonies, proposals and picnics on the beach (Caribbean Luxury Picnic). CODIO Photography, a husband-and-wife photo and video team based in town, says it advises couples on ceremony times for the best light, beaches and day timelines (CODIO).
Legal ceremony in Las Terrenas
Las Terrenas has its own civil registry office: the JCE lists the Oficialía del Estado Civil de Las Terrenas at Calle Juan Pablo Duarte No. 221, tel. (809) 240-5504 (JCE directory). MIREX says the officer can perform the ceremony at a hotel or other venue by prior agreement, with the cost set by the oficialía (MIREX).
The national rules apply: apostilled and translated documents, two adult witnesses, and a JCE fee of RD$25,000 when both partners are non-resident foreigners (JCE fees). Official sources disagree on whether witnesses may be relatives, which our legal requirements guide explains. Events BW lists legal paperwork among its services if you want a local planner to handle the oficialía.
Budget pointers
Published wedding prices are scarce in Las Terrenas; most venues and planners quote per event. The villa rates and event fees above are the firm numbers we found. For resort packages elsewhere in the country and the fixed government fees, see our destination wedding cost guide, and compare with weddings across the Samaná Peninsula and in Punta Cana.
