Destination wedding cost in the Dominican Republic: what drives the price

What actually moves the budget for a DR wedding (venue, planner, photo/video, music, guest count) and which published figures we could verify.

There is no single 'average' price we can cite for a Dominican Republic destination wedding, so we don't publish one. Most vendors quote per event after you send your date, venue and guest count.

Venue is the biggest decision. Options range from large resorts with wedding teams (Eden Roc Cap Cana, Puntacana Resort & Club, Casa de Campo in La Romana) to island and boutique settings (Cayo Levantado Resort in Samaná Bay, Villa Serena in Las Galeras) and forest venues in the mountains (The Grand Forest, Jarabacoa).

Planners: Punta Cana planners such as Bodas Punta Cana advertise micro-weddings on Isla Saona and Cap Cana beaches, a common way to keep guest count and cost down.

Photo and video: HDC Photo says prices depend on hours of coverage, number of photographers and deliverables; a date is reserved with a signed contract and a 30% retainer, and travel within the DR is included in its pricing for most weddings. Other studios (Photo Cine Art, Valiko Proskurnin) quote on request.

Music and content: an event DJ, live music, videography/photography and drone coverage can be booked as ExperiencesDR premium add-ons.

Budget tip: collect written quotes from at least two vendors per category and confirm what is included (travel, second shooter, hours, taxes).

Region changes the budget

Where you marry shapes the bill as much as how many guests you invite. Punta Cana and Cap Cana have the widest choice of resorts and suppliers and the most flights into PUJ, which helps guests' costs. La Romana concentrates venue, villas and catering at Casa de Campo, with its own airport (LRM). The Samaná Peninsula and Cabrera favour smaller weddings in boutique hotels: Cabrera Chalet hosts events for up to 25, and Casablanca Cabrera can be booked whole or for just the two of you. Jarabacoa's Grand Forest offers tailored forest-wedding packages from intimate to large.

The prices we can cite

Only a few suppliers publish numbers. Caribbean Wedding Agency lists intimate beach wedding packages from US$1,400 for two. HDC Photo reserves dates with a signed contract and a 30% retainer. The Junta Central Electoral lists RD$600 per certificate copy (acta) for civil-marriage paperwork. ExperiencesDR's in-house Wedding DJ starts from US$2,500 and Event DJ from US$1,000, with video on request. Everything else (resort packages, florists, most photographers) is quoted per event.

A budgeting method that works

Write one brief (date, guest count, venue, hours of coverage, style) and send it unchanged to at least two suppliers per category. Ask for itemized quotes showing taxes, service charges, travel and overtime. Then compare like for like: one photographer for eight hours is not the same product as two photographers for ten. Keep 10–15% of the total unallocated for changes; it is planning advice, not a market statistic, but it saves stress.
